Last week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the 2017 premiums for the Medicare Part A and B programs. Because of the 0.3 percent 2017 Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA), the hold harmless provision limits the increase of Part B premiums from $104.90 to $109.00 for the majority of beneficiaries. For the majority of the remaining beneficiaries, the Medicare Part B premium will be $134.00 for 2017. However, a small minority of higher income beneficiaries with annual incomes exceeding $85,000 will pay a higher Part B premium.
The Medicare Part A inpatient hospital deductible for 2017 will be $1316.00 – an increase of $28.00 from 2016. The skilled nursing home facility co-pay for days 21-100 will also increase in 2017 from $161.00 to $164.50.
