A recent article – “How to Plan for End of Life Wishes” by Amos Goodall recommends letting your loved ones know your end of life wishes using four Ws as a guide. The four Ws are:
- Who should speak for you when you can’t?
- What should they say?
- When do you want these issues raised?
- Where do you want to spend your final time?
The purpose behind the four Ws is to help people talk about their end of life care. This of course is very important, but it should also include a health care power of attorney and HIPAA release to make sure someone has the legal authority to act on your behalf.
