According to the National Council on Aging, senior centers can have a positive impact on the elderly. Research shows that older adults who participate in senior center programs can manage and delay chronic disease and improve their attitude and social behavior.
Today, there are over 11,000 senior centers that serve over 1 million adults. Many of these adults have higher levels of happiness and social interaction because of their involvement with a senior center.
Senior centers provide many opportunities for older adults. According to the Valley Area Agency on Aging, senior centers can provide many services including:
- Afternoon meals
- Information and referrals
- Health screenings
- Access to other community services and events
