Important – Skilled Nursing Facility 3-Day Rule Waiver

A beneficiary is generally eligible for inpatient skilled nursing care or rehabilitative services in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) only when the beneficiary has been admitted to the hospital as an inpatient for no fewer than three consecutive days. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has waived the requirement for a three day hospitalization for those people who need to be transferred as a result of the effect of a disaster or emergency.

This means that if you need skilled care or rehabilitation in a facility, you will not need to first be hospitalized for three consecutive days. This can help seniors if they need specialized care without first requiring a three day hospitalization.

Contact our office if you have any questions regarding this new waiver during the Covid-19 crisis. We can help guide you during these uncertain times.
